George's dad, Chip, helps market the Wimbees to shops, tea rooms, and plant shows.
What began as a Cub Scout project has become a profitable home business for 11-year-old George Dowis.
His whimsical plant and garden accessories, comprised of beads and wire on a skewer, sell for $3 at local galleries. George typically gives 20 percent of his profits to charity; puts 30 percent back into the business; saves 30 percent; and sets 20 percent aside for spending money, though he has yet to make a major splurge.
George can craft a Wimbee in about three minutes. He then sells his wares to shop owners and at plant shows and tea rooms.
