Embrace this weekend’s perfect weather forecast at these alfresco dining spots

Written by Lauren McCarter & Kali Blevins

Leaf Café & Bar
Downtown

This recent addition to the peninsula’s food scene had big shoes to fill when it moved into the former location of Vickery’s. But with a smart interior makeover and an expanded patio, Leaf is holding its own. Feel the glow of the sun as giant French doors bring the outside in. Or relax under the patio’s Chinese elm as you dive into a Leaf Benedict during Sunday brunch. 15 Beaufain St. (843) 793-2230

Basil
Mount Pleasant

This King Street Thai favorite expanded its reach to the East Cooper set and brought with it a posh second-story lakefront lounge. The upstairs bar windows also slide away, giving the effect of open-air dining. 1465 Long Grove Rd. (843) 606-9641, eatatbasil.com

Folly Roadside Kitchen
James Island

How many places let you roast free s’mores in a firepit and rise to the challenge of cornhole? Folly Roadside Kitchen offers both in an outdoor dining experience unlike any other in town. Bonus: live music Thursday through Sunday, complete with drinks available from the patio Tiki Bar. 951 Folly Rd. (843) 277-2410, roadsidekitchens.com

Zocalo
North Charleston

Housed in the skeleton of an old gas station, this hip Park Circle spot cooks up Mexican street food at affordable prices and in a neighborly atmosphere to boot. On a cool fall evening, enjoy your meal outside. Or, if you’re lucky, you’ll pop in on a sunny day when they’ve rolled up the bay doors to meld indoor and outdoor dining. 1049 East Montague Ave. (843) 225-5201

Taco Mamacita
Sullivan’s Island

Enjoy some Middle Street people watching from the patio of Sullivan’s Island’s newest taco joint. Snack on Oy Vey tacos and homemade guac washed down with a sweet margarita while you enjoy the funky vibe of this muy delicioso restaurante. 213 Middle St. (843) 789-4107, tacomamacita.com
