Arts: Wake Up Call
Enough Pie ushers in an imaginative new era with a one-day event
This month, renovations begin on 1600 Meeting, the 86-year-old brick building on the Upper Peninsula that will soon offer office and studio space as well as numerous resources to creative-industry individuals and companies. But in early June—in the 72-hour span between the time clean-up efforts end and hammers begin to swing—the public will be welcomed in for a free one-day visual and performing arts event dubbed ”Awakening.”
Organizers Enough Pie—a nonprofit devoted to creative placemaking and community development on the Upper Peninsula—sent out a call to artists, from painters and filmmakers to dancers, actors, and musicians, urging them to “turn vacancy into vibrancy.” Those who accepted the challenge will fill the building’s rooms and halls with temporary, site-specific projects. Look for the date and more details to be announced at enoughpie.org/awakening.
