Quick Bite: How to Host a Tailgate Party
It’s football season—time to roll out the cooler and head to the game. And in the South, we do it BIG! If you’re planning to go past the casual tailgate for a more extravagant affair, the ladies of Southern Protocol have you covered. Lizz Akerman and team offer their tips on pulling off an elaborate game-day event:
❶ Have a theme for your food, like a breakfast/brunch bar with Bloody Marys and mimosas.
❷ Serve up Southern comfort fare such as barbecue sliders or Captain Rodney’s Dip, a cheesy bacon concoction that’s to die for. Google it.
❸ Come up with a custom cocktail, like “The Mason-Dixon” (Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, Skyy Citrus Vodka, fresh-brewed tea, fresh-squeezed lemon), and serve it in Mason jars.
❹ Décor is everything. For a sporty centerpiece, cut a football lengthwise and poke holes in it, then place flowers in the holes.
❺ Quality over quantity—be sure to focus on the little things and do it right.
