Event Details

In the early 1980s, shrimpers in Yemassee developed the revolutionary practice of shrimp baiting, which involves sinking patties made of mud and fish meal to the bottom of a creek. The new technique lured more shrimp than anyone had ever seen, and the Yemassee Shrimp Festival was created in 1993 to honor the locals’ ingenuity. The three-day event includes a variety of activities ranging from the Battle of the Shrimp to parades, live music, and a street dance.
