Event Details

What if the English language was on the verge of extinction? It seems unthinkable, yet for some tribal civilizations their own words are disappearing. We Still Live Here traces the work of Jessie Little Doe Baird as she fights to save the language of the Wampanoag tribe of Massachusetts. Little Doe's determination to rescue the dying language also resurrects the culture of the Wampanoag tribe and paves the way for Little Doe to obtain her master's degree in linguistics  from MIT. Part of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, We Still Live Here promises to be as educating as it is engrossing. Recital Hall of the Simons Center for the Arts, 54 St. Philip St. Friday, 8pm. Free. (843)953-4422, www.halsey.cofc.edu
