Event Details

With such landmarks as Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie, and the Charleston Battery, it’s easy to miss some of the lesser-known Civil War vestiges in the city. The Charleston Museum’s curator of history, Grahame Long, invites you to explore two influential, but often overlooked, batteries. Hike around Battery Pringle and Battery Tyne and discover how these undermanned and under-armed artillery strongholds managed to hold off the Union forces. General Beauregard created these batteries as part of his “New Lines” mission, and we think even he would be impressed at how well these structures have survived. The Dill Sanctuary, 1163 Riverland Dr. Saturday, 10-11:30am. $20; $15 member. (843)722-2996, www.charlestonmuseum.org
