“The Tempest”

If the thought of balloon art has you thinking of magicians, we beg you to reconsider and check out Jason Hackenwerth’s inflated showcase at Redux Contemporary Art Center. His creations have shared museum space with dinosaurs and won him a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Inc. grant. Hackenwerth finds that latex balloons provide an alternative medium to paint and allow for a spontaneity that lets him create art that relates to current events. Find out what occasion will spark Hackenwerth’s creativity this time around. Redux Contemporary Art Center, 136 St. Philip St. Tuesday-Thursday, noon-8pm. Friday & Saturday, noon-5pm. Free.
