Event Details

Charleston Jazz Orchestra spices things up with a Latin jazz evening.

Need a Caribbean excursion? Forget your passport and pick up tickets to Charleston Jazz Orchestra’s Latin Night. For the orchestra’s fourth show of the season, special guest artist Etienne Charles, an award-winning Trinidadian trumpet player and percussionist, combines jazz improvisation and harmony with folk rhythms and chants inspired by the African experience of Trinidad and Tobago.

“Latin night has always been a hot event for us,” says Leah Suárez, executive director of Jazz Artists of Charleston. “We’re pushing the boundaries this time and hopefully inspiring our community and audience to think outside the box.”

This year, the event puts the emphasis on the Afro-Caribbean connection to Charleston’s Gullah culture. The performance will take you back in time, highlighting the effects of the diaspora from the Caribbean and linking that to the slave trade in Charleston. Get your groove on to the jazzy rhythms at this unique musical production.
