Gullah Rag Quilting Workshop
During the Antebellum period, the art of rag quilting disappeared on Wadmalaw and John’s islands. Gullah women combined feed and grain sacks with colorful rag strips to make these unique quilts. Sharon Cooper-Murray, often referred to as the “Gullah Lady,” strives to revive this folk art tradition alive. Join her for a workshop to learn more about rag quilting and begin a project of your own. Just remember to BYOS: bring your own scissors! The Charleston Museum, 360 Meeting St. Saturday, 9:30am-1:30pm. $45; $40 member. (843)722-2996, www.charlestonmuseum.org
