Event Details

The history of the camellias at Middleton Place, situated along the picturesque Ashley River, begins in 1788 when French botanist Andre Michaux brought four of the plants to the family’s plantation. Today, the original plants bloom in magnificent hues of white, pink, and red alongside the flowers of the newer camellia garden of the 1950s. Throughout the month, Middleton offers special guided tours with a focus on specimens from both eras, including the Reine de Fleurs, a descendant of one of Michaux’s original plants. Guided tours begin at the Garden Market & Nursery and last an hour and a half. Reservations are required. Middleton Place Plantation, 4300 Ashley River Rd. Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday, 11am. $25; $5 ages seven-15; free for child under seven. (843)556-6020, www.middletonplace.org
