NOVEMBER 14th - Palmetto Trail Night Hike

“Get off the concrete and into the woods,” encourages James Island County Park guide Danielle Palka, who believes that hiking is a good way to stretch your legs, not to mention take in the flora and fauna of our often explored natural surroundings.

 

Starting on the shoreline in Awendaw, Palka leads fellow trekkers through five to six miles of woods, overlooking creeks and occasionally spotting deer and raccoons spotlighted by the full moon. This weekend, step into the wild night, soak up the views, and don’t forget your bug spray and flashlight.

Coastal Carolina Fair
Join more than 200,000 attendees as you groove to the live tunes of famous recording artists such as Gin Blossoms and Little Texas, take in the views atop the ferris wheel, and indulge in treats such as funnel cakes and elephant ears during the 52nd annual Coastal Carolina Fair. Battle of Secessionville
Canons, gunpowder, and Yankees, oh my! Journey back to the days of the Civil War with this reenactment of the Battle of Secessionville, when Confederate forces at Fort Lamar on James Island kept Charleston from being seized by union soldiers. Hilton Head Island Bridge Run
Dash to Hilton Head Island for the 17th annual bridge run, where over 500 men, women, and children compete in 10K and 5K road races and a 5K health walk. During the post-run awards ceremony, refreshments, live music, and door prizes are up for grabs. Proceeds from the event—which has raised more than $24,000 since 1992—are given to local charities Region 9

Fun Run & Walk

Edisto River Canoe Trip
Explore one of the world’s longest blackwater rivers during this unique canoe excursion. Taper Candle Dipping
In addition to providing warmth and light, candles can set a room’s ambiance and inspire relaxation. Take advantage of the opportunity to create your own candles through a two-hour course. Employing beeswax and other natural materials, participants build candles while learning about the history of the site. Those under 15 must be accompanied by a

Crowders Mountain
Rock Climbing Trip
Yearning to translate your wall climbing techniques to the real thing? Join a group of avid climbers as they journey up to Crowders Mountain, one of the best climbing areas in the North Carolina Piedmont. This adrenalin-packed adventure teaches participants new climbing techniques such as rappelling, while improving their agility and balance.
