New York residents Erin and Matthew knew from the get-go that they wanted a destination wedding for all their friends and family, most of whom live in New York as well.
On their wish list: gorgeous fall weather, historical sites, tasty cuisine, and maybe even a direct flight from the city.
After declaring Charleston the winning spot, they went to work shooting for a “casually luxurious” theme that reflected them as a couple—chic yet relaxed. One favorite décor element? “For the ceremony we used lots of natural décor but with a twist of refinement, like elegant branches placed in large glass cylinders with blossoms attached in just the right places on each of the branches,” says Erin. Under the guidance of Distinctive Events, Erin says that she and Matt “divided and conquered” all the wedding duties. “We checked in with each other as we went along to make sure the other person was signed off on various ideas,” says Erin. That meant she handled the creative aspects (such as making programs and picking reception décor) while Matt took care of the logistics (he booked the hotel rooms for their guests and picked items for the menu).
Their hard work, plus the polish of Distinctive Events gave them a smashing night. After the ceremony in McCrady’s Gallery Room, guests made their way to the restaurant’s Long Room where they were greeted with a canapé selection of butternut squash soup, tomato tarte, and tuna tartar prior to a sit-down dinner of filet mignon with Madeira jus. Afterward, guests danced to Terry Lee and the GTs, and, in lieu of traditional wedding cake, sampled pie slices from a tasty dessert bar. But the best part? “Knowing that out wedding was a reflection of our style!” Erin says.
Erin’s Tip: To save dollars, move your dining room centerpieces and bridesmaid bouquets onto cocktail tables at the reception.
