Finally able to escape their homes after a week of snowy roads and freezing temperatures, enthusiastic partygoers were all smiles at the annual Chase After A Cure gala.
Attendees checked their coats, hats, and mittens at the door, and were warmly welcomed into a beautifully transformed Memminger Auditorium, adorned with floor to ceiling drapery and numerous crystal chandeliers. Guests sipped on the event’s signature rum punch and Italian mojitos from Icebox bar, and tasted small plates from Burwell’s Stone Fire Grill, 39 Rue de Jean, The Granary, Wasabi, Wentworth Grill, Epicure Charleston, and Salthouse Catering. Performances from Elise Testone and Elite Dance International amused the audience as they danced, mingled, and placed bids on art, restaurant gift cards, and themed baskets in the silent auction.
Later, guests took their seats and prepared their bid cards for highly sought-out live auction items. Vacation getaways to Cancun, Chicago, and Asheville were hot items, along with NASCAR tickets, dinner parties from local chefs and restaurants, and a one-of-a-kind Chase After A Cure diamond necklace.
As the night was winding down, attendees were asked to donate anywhere from $100 to $5,000 towards the charity’s $30,000 goal to purchase a new Bio-Rad ChemiDog Imaging System for MUSC’s Pediatric Cancer Research Lab. The audience quickly collaborated together to go above and beyond this goal, with the event raising $143,000 for pediatric cancer research.
