The anticipation for the 2014 Wine + Food Festival increased as guests gathered at the Mixson Bath and Racquet Club in North Charleston for the Ticket Launch Party. The event, presented by Limehouse Produce, offered guests a taste of what's to come during the festival on March 6-9, including specialty cocktails and gourmet food samples.

The only swim and social club of its kind in Charleston, Mixson Bath and Racquet Club provided the perfect setting for this unique occasion. A small oasis in the heart of North Charleston, the venue had a dreamy, vintage quality, despite its modern, industrial buildings. The scene of the event looked like something out of an old photo album, as guests mingled on the pool deck among striped umbrellas and palm trees strung with light bulbs. Charleston Symphony Orchestra provided the background music, sending sweet, high notes of violin floating on the cool fall breeze.

The crowd—a mix of young and old—shared a common passion and deep appreciation for the abundant food and beverages displayed among the booths lining the pool. Dishes included Cajun-inspired shrimp with pimiento cheese grits from Slather Brand Foods, grouper and shrimp sliders with tomato marmalade and pickled red beets from Fish, herb gnocchi from The Grocery, Callie’s famous cheese biscuits, and Fleet Landing’s pan-seared lionfish with balsamic strawberry relish. Wine was flowing, along with libations from Craftsmen Kitchen & Tap House, High Wire Distillery, Bloody Marys from Fat and Juicy Cocktails, and creative takes on classic cocktails from Gin Joint, including their new crowd-pleasing Bittermilk Tom Collins with elderflower and hops, a glass of pure sunshine.

The Wine + Food Festival strives to give back through educational opportunities and culinary scholarships, benefitting the College of Charleston Department of Hospitality and Tourism, the Culinary Institute of Charleston, and the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Charleston.
